Installing the Pentax Variable ND Filter on the K-3 III Monochrome

Foto.Feola.Friday for Nov. 1, 2024

Today we’re installing the new Variable Neutral Density software filter on the Pentax K-3 III Monochrome. That requires the latest version of the firmware, so we’re doing a firmware update first so you can see the process, then installing the Variable Neutral Density filter. Variable ND filters allow you to effectively expose parts of your image separately, so you can, say, make clouds pop while still getting good foreground detail.

There will be a follow-up video field testing this new filter. Much more on what a Variable ND filter is good for and why you would use one in that video.
