The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades
The Perfecting Equilibrium Digest, February 1-7, 2024
I study nuclear science
I love my classes
I got a crazy teacher
He wears dark glasses
Things are going great, and they're only getting better
I'm doing alright, getting good grades
The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades

Harry Allen on When the World Changed Overnight
Chris, IMHO, this is your best PE. If you remember me at all, you may recall that I'm a fly-fishing Mac guy and blissfully ignorant about computing. So I scan your tech stuff and look for nuggets of humanity. This was a nugget.
Of course I remember you, my friend. It’s been a minute since we went fly fishing for smallmouth bass with hair mice, no? (For you non—flyfishers: For reasons I don’t understand smallmouth bass go completely psychotic over mice and will crawl over gravel to murder them.) And I think you will like where Perfecting Equilibrium is going. We’ve focused, necessarily, on the old world winding down. From here on we’re focusing on the new, fascinating world emerging as we enter the Information Age.

Easter Eggs
My brain is a peculiar place; it likes to play word association, and then play back songs with those words. Here are the songs playing in my mind as I wrote these articles.
Please help me grow Perfecting Equilibrium
I’d really appreciate it if you would be so kind as to invite friends to subscribe and read with us. Of course, there will be rewards! And a leaderboard!
Here’s how it works: Share Perfecting Equilibrium. When you use the referral link above, or the “Share” button on any post, you'll get credit for any new subscribers. Simply send the link in a text, email, or share it on social media with friends. When your friends use your referral link to subscribe (free or paid), you’ll receive complimentary access to the Perfecting Equilibrium paid archives (The newsletter remains free). Here’s the leaderboard and the details. Also, these are the default rewards in the Substack tool, and a way to get started. I’m working on upgrading the rewards to e-books and merch. But that will take me a while, and meanwhile this will get us started. And if you like the new rewards better, you can trade in for it. I’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Sunday February 11th — The (old) media is dead; long live the (new) media. The last vestiges of the old media are dying, and not quietly. But the overall media landscape is healthier than it’s been in many years. It’s hard for the old guard when they are passed over by the new, but evolution is natural and healthy. Great new things are being born.
