Sunday, April 26th — The Pentagon fires the Stars & Stripes Ombudsman: History doesn’t repeat; it rhymes, first as tragedy, then as farce. When the Pentagon attempted to censor Stars & Stripes during the 1980s, it was an attempt to cut down the only reliable source of English-language news for tens of thousands of servicemembers across Europe and Asia. Now the military is at it again. I should be more outraged than I am. Because here’s the real question: what’s the point of Stars & Stripes in the Information Age?
