When Pentax announced The Film Project in late 2022 I thought it was a smart business move, but not something for me. I mean, I have a display case with all the Pentax film cameras I’ve used over the years, from the diminutive Auto 110 Super to the Brogdibodian 6x7. What film camera could they do that I didn’t already have? Then they announced it was a half-frame, and I started thinking I might need one just to complete the collection.

Now that it’s out I’m becoming fascinated with the 2UP mode. Each full frame is scanned, making the two half-frames contained into a diptych. Now I’m daydreaming about how to use that!

Pentax is sending me a 17 to review later this month; what do you want to know? What would you like me to try with it? I’ve already bought as roll of Tri-X for it because…Tri-X!
