Sipping whiskey out the bottle
Not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Singing "Sweet Home Alabama" all summer long
Catching walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We'd blister in the sun
We couldn't wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock 'n' roll
Editor’s Note: It’s July, and the dog days of summer are upon us. Readership drops here in the summer, just as it did in the heyday of newspapers. And it’s just too dang hot and pretty to go on and on and on about the damage data chunking does to maintaining context when training Large Language Models. So look for some lighter fare until the leaves start turning in September. Hope you have a great 4th of July, and enjoy the summer!

Lynn W Gardner on Weird Cameras Judging the Judge-Huawei P9 vs Sigma DP1 vs Sony Pro-I: Fight! And the answer is: the Sony RX100, detail in the judges face in the the shadow of the brim of the hat, the small letters are readable on the winery sign, details details details… now I patiently away to learn why I am wrong from a master photographer. 😉😉
PS: does Grapevine Texas have some connection to Jurassic Park or was this just someone’s Idea of public art like the painted pigeons they put in downtown Orlando this winter for some, who know what reason??
But you're not wrong! Art is like ice cream; which flavor is the absolute best? The one that moves you. The one you dream about. And the Sony is no chump camera! I wanted to put the P9 and DP1 up against tough - but reasonable - competition.
I’ve just started using the Sigma, and I haven’t gotten comfortable with it yet. So I won’t draw any conclusions about it’s image quality yet, because I’m still climbing the learning curve with it. More on that camera soon.
The Huawei P9 is pretty amazing! Is it better than the Sony? Not sure yet. I’ve been shooting with the Sony for 4 years, and P9 less than four weeks. But it’s really, really intriguing. So much so that I’m planning another video on it.
My problem with colour digicams with Bayer arrays like the Sony is the processing yields a digital look to the images: smeary in the shadows; overly sharp in the primary areas. To my eye monochrome sensors yield images akin to the grain you find in film. It’s not wrong to like digicam images or dislike them, anymore than it’s wrong to prefer Tri-X over Tech Pan, or vice versa.
Or chocolate over vanilla ice cream. Or vice versa.
Actually, come to think about it, there is just one flava good enough for me…

Easter Eggs
My brain is a peculiar place; it likes to play word association, and then play back songs with those words. Here are the songs playing in my mind as I wrote these articles.
