I bleach the sky every night
Loaded on wrong and further from right
Spinning around two howling moons
'Cause they're always there whatever I do
The river is loaded, I've been there today
Took it some questions, she does me again
I'd die in your arms if you were dead too
Here comes a lie, we will always be true
Going up when coming down
Scratch away-way-way-way-way
It's the little things that kill
Tearin' at my brain again
Oh, the little things that kill

Last week’s photos were straight out of the camera JPEGs to show the Pentax K-3 III Monochrome’s output without post-processing. Truth is, I find most images need little or no post-processing. And I’m still tweaking the camera setup; right now I’m underexposing by a stop to protect the highlights. Once I fully figure out the Highlight Protection mode, I think the JPEGs will be pretty close to not needing any tweaking at all.
Here’s one of last week’s JPEGs, then the DNG of that same image tweaked in Photoshop. I shoot RAW+JPEG, so I get one of each every shot. First the straight-out-of-the-camera JPEG:
And here’s the same image processed in Photoshop from the DNG:
The detail and tonality out of the Monochrome remind me of the results out of Ansel Adam’s large format setup. The equipment; not the photographer, alas…

Sunday, April 7 — Still Wobbly After All These Years; Perfecting Equilibrium enters Year Three, plus a look back over the first two years.
Sunday, April 14 — About that time I accidentally spent all my money on lenses. And tripods. And art. Every month for four years and fourth months... A soldier and his pay are soon parted, everyone knows. And I was no different. But I’m probably the only soldier ever who blew all his money on Pentax lenses and woodblock prints.
