Got a new drug (camera)

I want a new drug
One that won’t make me sick
One that won’t make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick
I want a new drug
One that won’t hurt my head
One that won’t make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red

So I finally sold my hated Sony a7r ii and bought a new (to me) Fuji GFX 50R. Much more on all that in a few weeks when the new gear has settled in.
One cool feature of the 50R is film simulation bracketing. I have the camera set to RAW+JPEG, and then the Film Simulation Bracketing set to Acros, which matches the Fuji Acros black & white film; Classic Chrome, a slide-film recipe, and Velvia, which resembles Fuji’s colour negative film.
Push the shutter button once; get four images. Interesting!
Here are shots with the Fujifilm GFX 50R with the Fujinon GF 35-70mm f/4.5-5.6 WR, set to film simulation bracketing. Here’s Acros:
Classic Chrome:
Velvia:
More to come.

Sunday, January 11th — The Iron Law of 9s Applies To Scotch; or, How To Get A Great Wee Dram for a Wee Price! The Macallan 25 Year Sherry Oak Single Malt Scotch whisky is a legendary dram. It’s also $2,498.99. A bottle. Is it better than the Glenfarclas 25 Year Single Malt Scotch? Yes. But is it better than 11 bottles of the $219.99 Glenfarclas? Not as far as I’m concerned. The Iron Law of 9s means you can get the Glenfarclas with 90 percent plus of the taste and value of the Macallan for 90 percent less money.
