The Perfecting Equilibrium Digest, May 20-26, 2025
When I wake up, well, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out, yeah, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk, well, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver, yeah, I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's haverin' to you
But I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand
Miles to fall down at your door

Comment of the Week
Steve Ross during a conversation on Virtual Newsroom: The business is changing fast, with many media "stars" (at least in their own mind) setting up their own subscription services on substack, etc. It is the Feola approach (sorry Chris). The problem is that not too many of them can charge $5/month and get people to pay-adds up to a lot of money for the subscribers and (usually) not much for the authors.
No worries, and not really. I've always told people that writers have a choice to be pros making money or Emily Dickinson. I make money writing for Pentax Forums and elsewhere, and I'm Emily Dickinson on Substack. Sure, I put up a paid option-why not? It was two clicks-but I don't do paid-only posts. Or marketing. Or any Upgrade to Paid campaigns. After 3 years and 500 posts I've got two paid subscribers, and $0 through Buy Me A Coffee. Which is fine. I write what interests me, and I'm just pleased people want to read it. And I’m gratified by how many are reading.
On Pentax Forums, on the other hand, I cover a beat. Banged out two stories in one day last week; shades of those old days as an ink-stained wretch.
So I’ll keep writing. I hope you’ll keep reading. And if you feel like buying me a cup of coffee? I cannot lie:
I do love me some coffee!

My brain is a peculiar place; it likes to play word association, and then play back songs with those words. Here are the songs playing in my mind as I wrote these articles.
