Among my many crazy theories is one on the relationship between creativity and new technologies. A new technology emerges; a wild burst of creativity follows as bright creatives figure out how to exploit it; until finally new best practices emerge.
Which a horde of followers then beat into tired cliches.
Take movies. In the 1950s Orson Welles opened Touch of Evil with a single take tracking shot that went on for minutes and changed cinema. Now influencers do that shot on TikTok. But here’s the real question: Can you remember a single scene from, say, the last half-dozen movies you’ve watched?
I’m thinking about this because it occurs to me that an entirely new type of photography is possible with the Pentax K-3 III Monochrome and its unprecedented low light performance. I routinely shoot at 50,000 ISO, and it’s quite usable up into six figures.
So why not shoot in available darkness?
